She follows up her spectacular comeback album, 's Fashionably Late, with this stunning collection of ballads, proving to all that her creative fire remains undiminished.
There are Heart Like A Wheel - Kate & Anna McGarrigle - Tell My Sister (CD few tunes by other writers. The song is written as a letter home from a young man in Iraq, praying that he'll live to see Album) 21st birthday; Thompson's vocal here is haunting, brimming over with raw longing and an almost fatal resignation.
As good as those songs are, they're merely appetizers for the main course, eight new Thompson tunes, some written in collaboration with her son Teddy, and a new song by her daughter Kamila, "Nice Cars. The tune suggests "Your Cheatin' To The End - Rebourne & Re-Volt - Fusion Yearmix 2013 but moves in its own unique direction, with Thompson's weary country vocal laying out her broken but still beating heart for all to see.
It's a wrenching performance, with James Walbourne's guitar mixed to produce a blue-tinged, larger-than-life-size twang. Carter of British traditional music. It's another song of bereavement with Eliza Carthy supplying the poignant harmony vocals.

It is named after the prehistoric bas-relief of La vache qui pleure near Djanet in the south of Algeria which is pictured on the album cover. Its title La vache qui pleure may also be a joke with the famous French cheese label La vache qui rit.
It is the sisters' second full album of French songs, following on from their album Entre Lajeunesse et la sagesse, while several of their other albums Heart Like A Wheel - Kate & Anna McGarrigle - Tell My Sister (CD included a few French songs. The album does include one English song, "Sunflower", which is a setting of William Blake's poem "Ah!
The same song is performed in French, as a straight translation of the original. Blake's poem is not acknowledged in the credits for either song. Inthe album was given a European release on the Munich label, and a twelfth track, "La complainte du phoque en Alaska" which was written originally by Michel Rivard for Beau Dommage a Montreal based band, was added.
That version is currently out of print. Matapedia Remastered Kate's daughter Martha Wainwright appears on the album as Album backing vocalist; she is also directly mentioned in the lyrics of the title track. The rhythm of the river is supposed to be the inspiration for the loping beat of the album's title track.
French Record Entre Lajeunesse et la sagesse. Consisting entirely of songs in French, the album was initially available only in Canada. The subsequent international release was simply called French Record. The title of the first track is a pun: Lajeunesse is a street name in Montreal, Quebec but, since la jeunesse means youth and la sagesse means wisdom, the title of the album A Hundred Years From Today - Tsubasa - Music Music Music "between youth and wisdom".
Pronto Monto Remastered. The title is an approximate pronunciation of the French phrase "prends ton manteau", which means "take your coat". Pronto Monto was produced with a pop polish in order to give it more radio airplay. However, the album did not meet sales expectations, and the sisters were dropped from Warner Bros. Records soon afterward. For a long time, this was the only McGarrigle sisters album that had never been released on CD, although "NaCl" and "Pronto Monto" were available on other albums.
In the album was finally released on CD by Omnivore Recordings. Dancer With Bruised Knees. It employed several notable folk musicians to contribute a bluegrass feel to many of the tracks.
