If you have come to this page from a search engine click here to visit our home page. Scan Tester. Scan Tester was one of the most influential anglo concertina players from England. His lifetime of playing in pubs, dances and servants' balls, created a large and varied repertoire of tunes, including polkas, waltzes, schottisches, stepdance hornpipes, and of course, the songs of the day. In the mid-fifties he met Mervyn Plunkett and joined a loose-knit group of musicians including Reg Hall.

They played in pubs and private parties and went up to London where Scan played solo at the Royal Albert Hall. These recordings also include some of Scan's contemporaries like Art Winter, Jack Norris and Bill Gorrringe the only recording of a Sussex traditional fiddler. These two albums were originally released on vinyl by Topic records to accompany Reg Hall's book of the same name. See ENB5. View Basket.

Lewis 'Scan' Tester was born in to a musical family. He was something of a prodigy playing from the age of 8 at all sorts of social functions where music was required, including pubs. Although famous in his local Sussex, it wasn't until he was in his 70s that he became known and loved by a public beyond his own place and frostseekerbearonanaralore.infoinfo: $

Notation Note: The tunes below are recorded in what is called “abc notation.”They can easily be converted to standard musical notation via highlighting with your cursor starting at “X:1” through to the end of the abc’s, then “cutting-and-pasting” the highlighted notation into one of the many abc conversion programs available, or at frostseekerbearonanaralore.infoinfo’s incredibly handy “ABC.
