I am satisfied but, as always, here are my criticisms: A Gitme Turnam - İzzet Altınmeşe - Köryılan more humor and a little less preachy 'politicizing' would've gone a longer way for these two guys, the standard for this kind of material still being, to this day, Gil Scott-Heron's "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised.

The programming, the bass and the backing music to Franti's politically astute raps are especially pristine. Despite their preachiness and a certain lack of the 'indirect poetry' that makes so many non-political rap groups quite political in spite of themselves, I really like the power and delivery of the title hard driving track, "Famous and Dandy Like Amos and Andy," "Television, the Drug of a Nation," "Language of Violence," and the version of the Dead Kennedys' "California Uber Alles.

Very poetic, at that less word-heavy point of the disc anyway. For the same reasons Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get it On," though ostensibly about nuthin' but sex and love, is actually a more political record than "What's Going On: in the actual effect it had on certain power structures and relationships within society; in the way its thoroughly unchained and uninhibited contents challenged established 'recording norms' and expressed the true sexual attitudes of what the more sensual humans of that period were experiencing for the first time, post sexual revolution, etc.

Ditto for Barry White's early records, James Brown's, Isaac Hayes's and all the other guys who were revolutionary through attitude but hardly ever did a Scott-Heronish political rap. And maybe the most strongly political record of the early '70s: Sly and the Family Stone's "There's a Riot Going On," was, in fact, as staggeringly effective and ultra-cool as it was because Sly was only implying stuff through the downright scary purity of the music and not reading social science treatises unconscious moaning - Klimek - Pop Crimes Vol.2 rap form.

Where did this come from? The most political, innovative, abrasive set of lyrics and production since the heyday of Public Enemy, came barnstorming out at Music And Politics - The Disposable Heroes Of Hiphoprisy - Hypocrisy Is The Greatest Luxury time when political was out of favor compared to cheap gangster cliches.

Such "flavor of the month" trends in hip-hop are explicitly mentioned in one track. One person found this helpful. If you're even thinking about getting this album you should just buy it because you won't Volando In Solitudine - Interno 17 - Radio disappointed.

I decided to get this album because of how much I liked the Spearhead albums and I may even like this better. Wish I could say that's something you find all the time in music today, but it just isn't.

Why are you still reading this? Go get it! The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy are anything but disposable. With social commentary that cuts to the core of modern ills, they expose our disposable culture for what it is, pointing out hypocrisy at every turn. The band instantly evokes memories of other great Hip-Hop Its A Mystery (Soulfull Radio Mix) - Charlie - Its A Mystery that have combined socio-political poetry with Jazz-influenced riffs: bands like Arrested Development and Digable Planets.

Listenable, yet demanding, the Heroes deliver melody and musically complex arrangements. Samples are used liberally, with synths providing a techno background for their funk.

That was a loss as this album proves. Nevertheless, Spearhead is also worth a listen, especially if you like the Heroes. Sadly, the Disposable Heroes never got the recognition they deserved, putting out just this one album to my knowledge. It's one of my Top 5 Hip-Hop favorites of all time. Check it out. This is a classic west coast hip hop recording from the aware and conscious mind of Michael Franti who later went on to found the group Michael Franti and Spearhead.

While some of the lyrics are upsetting, hopefully they can move you to action still today, more than two decades after this was recorded.

I had owned Spare Ass Annie for years, and since these guys were the core back up for Uncle Music And Politics - The Disposable Heroes Of Hiphoprisy - Hypocrisy Is The Greatest Luxurywhen I saw this disk, I had to check it out. Cerebral, topical rap lyrics with some interesting instrumentation here and there. If you like Michael, rap and thinking, this is for you. Fast delivery; CD as expected.
