We're going to Russia in the beginning of November, and we need to be guaranteed snow. We thought of going to a skii resort close to Moscowfor convenience sake. What are the chances we won't be able to find snow within an hour or two from Moscow by car? Otherwise I believe the probability of snow in St Petersburg at that time of year is much higher, but it is also going to be an additional expense we have not budget on.
The only snow you will be able to find is on the indoor skiing slope: snej. To clarify the chances of finding snow are close to nil at that time. Plus to get at any ski area worth going to you'll need to fly. The weather is really quite unpredictable, and I do remember some occasions when it was snowing in the beginning of November, however, it's quite a rare occasion and def not a rule. I'd say if you want to see snow in Moscow you should Uncle Arthur - Virgin Prunes - Reptiles there for Christmas holidays or better for Russian New Year holidays usually they are of January.
However, if you would like to stick to that particular time of early November, your best bet is a skiing resort in the mountains. They all are quite far from Moscow and well worth a different journey to be honest. Probably it makes more sense to go there separately. If it is cold enough in November and it was snowing at some point, there are indeed chances Snowing In Moscow - Various - Under The Ground E.P.
snow will be possible to see outside of Moscow - it melts slower there than in the city. Petersburg has even less chances of having snow in November, and even Various - Club St Tropez 2013 it will be snowing, it's unlikely that snow will not melt upon touching the ground.
St P has a milder climate being close to the sea. Anyway early Nov is way too early to ski in Moscow or anywhere. You can fly east and north-east of Moscowsay to Surgut to have a much higher probability of snow in November.
